Is there any more powerful, pleasure-seeking, dance-inducing performer today than Trombone Shorty? The New Orleans native makes music that seems to ignore genre, and aims for your hips. So we’re glad to be giving away a couple early-bird tickets for Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue’s upcoming performance at the 9:30 Club.
The trombonist, trumpeter and vocalist will be doing a three-night run at the end of December, helping D.C. ring in the new year with shows on Dec. 29, 30 and 31. If you haven’t experienced his thrilling live show yet, now’s the time.
We have two tickets to give away for the Dec. 30 show. To get a hold of them, click below and enter our contest by sharing CapitalBop’s Facebook post.
A hundred years after jazz emerged in New Orleans and about 80 after the music’s epicenter moved to New York City, the Crescent City just keeps on coughing up talent. Artists who renew the music, and show us new ways that it can be bent and combined with other music. Most of all, New Orleans music is dance music, and social music — what musicologists call “functional,” and most people call “fun as hell.” The 27-year-old Trombone Shorty is just the latest in a long line of jazz-trained musicians to mix and mash it with funk, soul, rock, hip-hop and much else. In lots of ways, he’s a James Black for the 21st century.
Don’t miss this young master when he hits D.C. in December!
Thanks for the posting, checked him out because of it. Just bought three albums. Beautiful.
I have most of his albums. Just received his new one. Got to see him twice in Jacksonville, FL. We are Jazz people and love his style of music.
Thanks Trombone
