Last week’s series-opening performances by the Young Lions and the Joe Herrera Quartet were almost burning enough to singe the paint off the walls of the graffiti-coated church known as BLIND WHINO: SW Arts Club — an amazing venue, no matter what music is playing. Below there’s a very quick recap video of that show.
But if you missed it, CapitalBop’s three-week residency continues this weekend with the Grammy-nominated Kneebody of New York City, whose highly anticipated album on Concord Records just hit stores Tuesday. Come hear their acclaimed, high-energy live show, check out the hundreds of graffiti art pieces donning the building, and get a free cocktail when you pick up your $10 ticket.
Grammy-nominated quintet Kneebody is one of the Big Apple’s most buzzed-about groups in any genre: The New York Times calls them “visceral … bright and slashing,” and raves that “this band would slay at Bonnaroo.” Makes sense: What other band is going to give you Aphex Twin, Miles Davis and Radiohead all poured into the same improvised wonderland of sound? Kneebody’s music goes in all different directions — toward funk, house, trip-hop, metal and so much else. Their debut on major label Concord Records, The Line, is a doozy, and they are on an international tour to promote it. Don’t miss them when they pass through D.C. for the first time!
