Welcome to CapitalBop 2.0

We’re thrilled to officially announce the launch of the newly redesigned CapitalBop.com. Our go-to calendar of all D.C. jazz shows is now fully interactive and integrated into the site. The clubs guide section has been expanded and revamped, with interactive maps and descriptions of all D.C. jazz venues. We’re featuring more multimedia content on every page—you’ll never read another post on here that doesn’t feature streaming audio, and probably video as well. And the entire look and feel of the site are much more contemporary and user-friendly.

We have a very solid team to thank for that: The Capital Bop redevelopment was spearheaded by Jennifer White-Johnson of JT Photo & Design and Charmaine Nokuri of Allegiance Branding. We couldn’t be more grateful to them for their expert work.

Launch party at the Gibson

We’re celebrating the new website—and CapitalBop’s upcoming DC Jazz Loft Series at the DC Jazz Festival—with a launch party next Tuesday, June 3, at the Gibson. The incredible, sound-stretching duo of Akua Allrich and Kris Funn will perform a set of music, and the famous Gibson cocktails will be as delicious as always. It’s free; just RSVP by clicking below.

CapitalBop.com 2.0 is built around big images and interactive elements. For instance…

  • our newly integrated and sortable D.C. jazz calendar, with all local shows listed by venue, neighborhood and category (i.e. “CB PICK,” “free show,” or “full menu available”)
  • the improved clubs guide, with venues clickable on a map, linked to neighborhood listings
  • high-quality video and audio content is on nearly every page; all posts now feature streaming audio, plus other media
Our regular Weekend in Jazz listings (example at right) continue to offer you a look at all the gigs happening in a given weekend—but now the post will feature a clean, embedded calendar that you can sort according to various criteria. We’re also putting an added emphasis on our CB PICKS, to help you zero in on what we think is most worth hearing. Starting this week, Weekend in Jazz will come out on Thursdays, rather than Fridays, giving you extra time to plan your weekend.
